Discover Yoga in the heart of Carryduff.

Next week marks the launch of Yoga at our Carryduff Studio. We caught up with our new Yoga Instructor Andrea to find out more about Yoga.

Hi Andrea, tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m Andrea and I’ve been living in Carryduff for almost 20 years now although I’m originally from Carnlough on the Antrim Coast!

I previously worked in IT but left it in 2018 to train as a Yoga Instructor. At the moment, I teach yoga and work part time mentoring start-up companies with their IT platforms. I first discovered my love for yoga back in 2016 and it really helped both mental and physical wellbeing. I've also found that Yoga really complements my other physical activities, such as running, walking, and strength & conditioning training.

Thanks! So, for those who maybe aren’t familiar, what is Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient practice that has changed over time.

Modern yoga focuses on poses designed to stimulate inner peace and physical energy. Ancient yoga did not place as much emphasis on fitness. Instead, it revolved around cultivating mental focus and expanding spiritual energy.

Today’s yoga is a mind and body practice. Various styles of yoga combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. The physical postures are one of 8 aspects of Yoga which most people will be most familiar with.

We noticed that you are running two different types of Yoga classes at Smart, who is Yoga for?

Yoga is for everybody!

At the moment I’ll be running a general Yoga class, open to everyone of all abilities and a specific men’s Yoga class.

Great - what are the benefits of Yoga?

There are so many benefits, from direct benefits to benefits as a result of introducing Yoga as part of a balanced lifestyle. We could be here all day listing the improvements from strength to sleep quality but here's a few:

A regular yoga practice promotes endurance, strength, calmness, flexibility, and healthy well-being. Yoga is also vital in helping to support a balanced and active lifestyle.
